Information

With the growing population in coastal areas of Georgia, hurricane evacuation has become a major issue for the Georgia Department of Transportation. Following the massive evacuation in advance of Hurricane Floyd, comprehensive plans for future evacuations were developed by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, the Georgia DOT and numerous other state and local agencies. This Georgia DOT-administered site is designed to provide users with maps of official evacuation routes from both the Atlantic coast and the Gulf Coast areas. Be sure to view the I-16 one-way user's guide, which explains the concept of using both directions of I-16 as a westbound evacuation facility. There are also links to other hurricane sites where users can obtain additional hurricane information.
